Sagrantino hails from Italy, but takes refuge in Australia like no other. It thrives in the restrained heat of McLaren Vale, with the Mediterranean-like climate. With only 107 cases produced, this wine is small batch at its best. It's a hearty wine with firm tannins, decanting will help.  Earthy, black fruits are a trademark.

5OS are a bunch of rogue McLaren Vale young’uns colliding, collaborating and colluding to make an out-of-this-world wine. They call it ‘a journey of abandoned vinous pleasure’, we call it damn delicious. A talented hotchpotch of winemakers, furniture makers and farmers, we’re not sure Five O’Clock Somewhere have ever heard of a rulebook, let alone throw one out. These guys prefer to evolve organically rather than plan. But it’s an infectious kind of creativity that’s earned them a loyal, thirsty following, including ourselves.

100% Sagrantino sourced from the Lopresti Vineyard in South Australia. Whole bunches de-stemmed into small fermenters before a short maceration. Once fermenting the wine received 3x short pump overs daily to avoid our extraction of colour and tannins. Post fermentation the wine spent 12 months in a mix of 1st, 2nd and 3rd use French oak. Vegan friendly. Dialled up on everything - flavour, colour, tannin and acid. The more the merrier. The wine doesn’t skip a beat, though. It’s multi-layered and complex. A palate that mirrors the nose and that goes on and on, building as it does. A superb food wine, which is to be expected from one of Italy’s most underrated grape varieties.

Go Italian and go hard. Pizza, pasta, truffles if you're being a bit fancy. The tannins could even hold up to wild game or braised meats if you want to kick it old school.
