Imagine sinking into your favourite chair and sinking a glass of this. Yep, a classy shiraz like this was made for that exact classic kind of set up. These McLaren Vale grapes are grown on the two oldest Bondar blocks, for grapes with a bone structure that’d make Cindy Crawford weep with jealousy. Fragrant, plush blackberry and velvety dark chocolate.

Growing wine by the beach. It’s a tough life, but someone has to do it. Now here’s some real up-and-comers. Rooted in the McLaren Vale with lofty ambitions, Bondar has been part of the furniture in the Young Gun top 50 the last few years. Theirs is a small family outfit. With the oldest vines dating back to the 1950s and now in the hands of exacting winemaker Andre Bondar, every vintage is something different and complex, familiar yet fresh. Wine to get properly, unstoppably excited about.

"Winter rains were good in 2017 leading to solid canopies and healthy yields for another season.Veraison was quite late-well into January, which was welcome as we had a fairly hot and dry summer. Goodleaf area helped to protect the grapes from the coupleof serious heat events we had, and allowed them to ripen in their own time with strong flavour development and colour. Overall it was a warmer year, with powerful fruit favours and structural tannins. Hand-picked fruit, wild yeast ferment, 2 weeks on skins. About 20% whole bunches. 18 months ageing in mostly used French hogsheads (with 5% new oak aspart of the final blend). No fining or filtration, bottled in September 2019."

Can’t look past the BBQ here. You really can’t. Rooftop vibes, afternoon stretching into night, smoky flavours and silky shiraz. Job’s a good’un.
