Hold up. This one doesn’t happen very often. The MP1 label only comes out when Mike Press spots something special happening in the vineyard. 2015 was that year. 100 year old vines cloned in 1978 sure know how to make an full-bodied, soft fruit focussed, cool-climate concentrated shiraz. Very tasty now, very tasty to cellar.

We love the little guy here at Wine Brothers. Especially when that little guy has some big taste credentials. Adelaide Hills’ Mike Press really gets that whole ‘devil is in the detail’ thing. Despite turning heads at award ceremonies and sneaking five star Halliday reviews, Mike Press is still as hands-on as it gets. As the owners and makers of their single vineyard wine, each and every case sold gets packaged up in the family kitchen.

FROM THE WINEMAKER

Clones were taken from 100-year-old shiraz vines and have been planted in the Mike Press vineyard since 1978. Due to the vine age and great root stock these vines have all the hallmarks to produce an outstanding cool climate shiraz, showing soft forest fruit with a hint of pepper. Mike Press spends his days in the vineyard and watches carefully the growing season for these vines. The fruit needs to be sitting at a premium quality and yields managed to ensure concentration of flavours are evident. Already showing great potential this vintage of the MP1 Shiraz has the capacity to age for many more years to come. Bottle age will allow the wine to develop, the tannin structure to really soften and form into a seamless shiraz.

FOOD MATCH

Little known fact - Adelaide Hills shiraz is a mean match for Asian cuisine. Here you could go for a wagyu beef, a cantonese braised brisket, a chilli crab, a butter chicken... Rules are only there to be broken after all.
