Thank God It’s [input whatever day of the week], as we say in Wine Brothers World. Good, honest stuff here, with loads of blueberry and black pepper character on the nose, a dried herb character from the whole bunch technique and a vibrant purple that’d make any wizard jealous.

Wine smarts have run in the Pfeiffer family for four generations. Great-grandfather Albert worked his South Australia vines in barefoot, father worked with Penfolds for nearly thirty years, including overseeing the Grange vineyards viticulture, before first planting vines in the Barossa Valley in 1994. Now Josh leads the latest generation’s organic approach by dodging out, hilling back on and harvesting the fruit at optimum ripeness during the cool of the night. With solid grounding in the past but a passionate eye on the future, when these guys talk, we’re all ears.

FROM THE WINEMAKER

"100% grown here on our Estate vineyards using organic and biodynamic practices, this fruit comes from our younger vines, which were planted in 1997 and grow on loamy soils with broken quartz and ironstone scattered throughout. 15% whole bunch, fermented using wild yeast in small open fermenters; This wine was foot stomped to allow gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. After 12 days on skins the wine was basket pressed and put to old French and American oak for 9 months. The wine was blended and bottled with no fining and no filtration."

FOOD MATCHING

Thanks to a ripper year in 2018, this one is soft and smooth enough to slurp on its own. Or, red meat makes a worthy companion if you’re that way inclined.
