APHELION: ANCIENT GREEK: ‘FROM THE SUN’
Aphelion Wine Co. was founded in November 2015 by husband and wife team Rob Mack and Louise Rhodes. Guided by their desire for the world to produce Genuine, Authentic, Quality McLaren Vale Grenache, they handcraft select parcel wines, and produce styles that are perfectly matched to food.
Lou & Rob’s journey began on the Love Boat Pacific Princess in 2005. Over a bottle of Barolo, Rob had a wine epiphany. So complex, layered and nuanced, it was art in a bottle, it was irresistible, it cemented a passion. Next was to enrol in a winemaking degree, while working as a wine buyer and planner for a wine club. This led to an opportunity to make the wines for the wine club in beautiful McLaren Vale. Trading their lives in Sydney for the Vale was a leap of faith, and the best decision they ever made. Lou started her food, wine & travel blog, so inspired by the produce, cuisine and wines of the Vale. In 2014, together they worked with local growers and wineries to make the first Aphelion Wines.
