Practically part of the furniture when it comes to James Halliday’s Top 100, it’s hard to believe Mike Press is a small batch producer. But as an owner and winemaker who still packs cases of wine at the family kitchen table, small batch they certainly are.
One of the Original Gangsters of the portfolio, this Shiraz is both a critic and cult fave amongst Mike Press loyalists. Planted twenty years back, these vines were cloned from a Springton vineyard crop that’ve now reached the ripe old age of 100. They never fail to make a shiraz chock full of intense fruit flavours like cherries, blackberries and plum balanced by vanilla spice.
A game-changer any night of the week, or save it for five to ten years. Exceptional self-discipline will be required.
Take it from James Halliday: ‘The length and intensity of the wine grow each time you taste it – remarkable stuff’.
