Of all the 'alternatives' making their mark on the Australian wine scene, Nero D'Avola (Nero, mate) is making a pretty strong claim as the leader of the pack. It is thriving in McLaren Vale. Layers of red fruits, cherry cola and umami-like spice. Matt tells us this vintage has a touch more weight and juiciness than prior years. The palate is typically intense, with lovely ripe cranberry fruit, sour cherry tang, elegant tannin and saline minerals to finish. Lovely, lovely drinking. The sort of wine that you really really look forward to having the next sip / glass / bottle. Alternatively good.

Calling all you high rollers. Allow us to introduce one man band Matt East. He grew up in the Yarra Valley, tinkering with his own wine from a young age, dad growing grapes in the back yard. The Rouleur philosophy is tending to pick on the earlier side for a freshness that knocks your socks off without sacrificing flavour. Matt’s rolling/rouleur journey in wine took him from national sales manager for Wirra Wirra to now getting his handy dirty, (cue suit in the bin. Sales script ripped apart. KPIs and spreadsheets deleted.). Rouleur is a tilt of the hat to his dad - lost but not forgotten - and a nod to the road less traveled.

With fruit sourced from a single vineyard near Maslins Beach in McLaren Vale, the Zerella home block is carefully farmed and known for growing quality Nero D’Avola. We love working with this fruit and feel that Nero D’Avola is a ‘rising star’ grape variety with a bright future ahead in the earlier ripening sites of coastal McLaren Vale.

After 7 months in oak, Ronda was bottled without fining, filtration, additions or unnecessary attention. Once again, a hands-off approach proved to be all that was needed to craft this delicious, early drinking wine.

Italian variety grown in McLaren Vale. Why not eat some Italian food in Hong Kong. It is a globalised world. Pizza, pasta. Easy. Done.
