‘2018 was a dream’. When a winemaker says this, we’re listening. Especially if that person makes head-turning cool-climate wine. Well, this one’s rich. It’s ripe. It’s brimming with red cherry and blackberry with smokey spice and a hint of cloves. It’ll have you sucking your cheeks, smacking your lips and begging for more in a borderline disgraceful manner.


Less intervention. More paying attention. The guys at Yarra Valley’s Sticks can speak our language. Anthony Fikkers sure knows how to make an expressive cool-climate wine, we’ll tell ya that for nothing. We’re talking mime artist on a Parisian street levels of expressive. Sure, their vines might just be ‘sticks in the ground’. But this wine shows what those sticks can do with great talent and care.


Our aim was to create a rich, smooth and juicy shiraz. The Seasons Shiraz parcels were machine picked at between 13.5 -14.5 baume. Crushed, inoculated with yeast and fermented on skins for 7 days, the wine was then pressed off into stainless steel for malolactic fermentation. After approximately 6 months maturation in tanks and barrels (French and American between 1-3 years old), the wine was blended, lightly filtered and bottled.


The leathery tannin structure of this wine is a thing of beauty when it cuts through fattier foods. Oh yep, you read that right. Full license to get a fine cut of meat (or load up on the cheese if you’re vegetarian minded) and go nuts.
