There is plenty to discover
This is 5OS’s first release of a Nero Blend. Beginners luck? Absolutely! Whilst it looks like a catalogue of varieties have been thrown in, each one of them really adds a distinct layer, not something that’s a given in red winemaking. At the launch of our Wine Club in May, we had our members sample 10 wines - this beauty came out as the number one crowd pleaser. By the time this tasting note goes to print, there is a good chance it may have already sold out.
“We all love this wine, savoury yet with sweet fruit, medium-bodied but at the same time abundantly flavoursome, modern yet retaining a tinge of rustiness. Its old world on one hand and so new on the other. I'm writing this pseudo tasting note and I can take some credit for allowing this wine to be made but it really was a combination of collective intuition and even more so a proper dose of fate. My favourite wine in our range and it feels all the more satisfying when we accept the fact it made itself.”

At Wine Brothers we pride ourselves on bringing in relatively unknown, small-batch, boutique Australian wines. This one goes against the trend; it’s been discovered and it’s gone big! Jess Hardy (the winemaker who brought you the Loom SV Shiraz) has received high praise with this wine, taking home a trophy at the 2015 Barossa Wine Show and 3rd in The Adelaide Review Top 100 Wines. We don't normally subscribe to the establishment and pompousness behind wine competitions, however these awards are too good to not to show off!
The Long Yarn Riesling is balanced across the palate with medium weight and delicate viscosity. Floral notes and a slight hint of ginger greet the nose. The palate has unmistakable Riesling characteristics consisting of grapefruit, lime, sherbet, mandarin and a level of chalk and green papaya. The wine is soft in the middle with a hint of honeycomb and a well defined citrus spine. The wine’s long Eden Valley persistence and flavour suggest it will only improve will some time in
When the stars align, no variety shines brighter than Cabernet Sauvignon. At its best it’s full of alluring dark fruits and unmistakable crisp tannins, the flavours dancing on ones palate, each sip a seemingly never ending dialogue with the drinker. Wine Brothers fell in love with this Cab Sav at first sight, secured 10 cases of it, then tasted it again and secured the remaining 10 cases - it’s times like these you wish ‘small-batch’ producers weren't so small!
"This is classic McLaren Vale Cab, the alluvial soils of the McLaren Flat sub-region provide the density of flavour; mocha, warmed fruits and earthy undertones all hallmarks of the site. Matured in our cellars for a couple of years prior to release in mid-2016, it’s beautiful drinking upon release but will reward those who are patient, or capable, of forgetting it’s in the rack for a few years more. I love making Cabernet Sauvignon….nearly as much as I enjoy drinking it"
