When you thought Vanguardist couldn't make another cracking red. you cannot go wrong with this Grenache. All the complexity you want from a Grenache but with heaps of approachability. One you can definitely get around.
As with many great stories, VANGUARDIST was born of humble beginnings. Ideals, harmonised over a table littered with empty bottles. Laughs that rolled late into the evening, not realising the impetus forming; a relentless ‘fire in the belly’ that sent Michael bouncing across the equator, chasing international harvests for most of his adult life.
Years on, the VANGUARDIST focus has both broadened and deepened, illuminating new sites of intrigue with the same degree of captivation, while LA PETITE VANGUARD reflects the unbound and experimental (but ever-so quaffable)
side of Michael's character.
FROM THE WINEMAKER
Having half decent winter rainfall gave us hope for a more abundant season than the past few. The season turned out to be very kind. Hot at times, but never too hot. Wet at times, and thankfully never too wet. The season started early with our first of 5 picks on the 20th of February, and the final pick on the 18th of April. We saw an excellent quality of Grenache across the several hand picks, with a yield of around 38HL/Ha, close to the long-term average for the first time since 2017.
The final wine sees around 60% whole bunch, some carbonic, some more traditional. Mature 500L puncheons and 600L demi-muid housed the wine for about 6 months post press, before the final wine was blended and sent to bottle without fining or filtration

South Australian grenache is always decent. Slightly bit too light bodied for my liking but easy enough to drink and the spice and black fruits are spot on

Never been a fan of Grenache until this came along. Reminds me a lot of quality Pinot. Strawberry, cherry and light but not thin or bland. Slightly chilled I would drink this in place of a white wine with spicy or Asian dishes.
