Barossa Valley, SA

ALC: 13.5%

Feeling generous... this wine certainly is especially in red and dark fruit. Vibrant purple colour, this wine has loads of blueberry and black olive character on the nose. The whole bunch component gives a dried herb character to the wine and adds freshness to the palate. This is a great drink on its own, but can also pair well with red meat dishes.

Wine smarts have run in the Pfeiffer family for four generations. Great-grandfather Albert worked his South Australia vines in barefoot, father worked with Penfolds for nearly thirty years, including overseeing the Grange vineyards viticulture, before first planting vines in the Barossa Valley in 1994. Now Josh leads the latest generation’s organic approach by dodging out, hilling back on and harvesting the fruit at optimum ripeness during the cool of the night. With solid grounding in the past but a passionate eye on the future, when these guys talk, we’re all ears.

FROM THE WINEMAKER

"Partial whole bunch & fermented in both small & medium sized open fermenters using wild yeast. A combination of hand plunging and pump overs allowed for gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. After 10 days on skins the wine was pressed and put to old French oak Botti for 12 months. The wine was blended and bottled with no fining."

FOOD MATCHING

This one is soft and smooth enough to slurp on its own. Or, red meat makes a worthy companion if you’re that way inclined.
