Heathcote, VIC
ALC: 14.8%

An original gangster when it comes to Victorian wines, the Heathcote shiraz can apparently still surprise us. This one’s explosively juicy, balanced as a tightrope walker with a broad, savoury palate. Typical flavours like black cherry and fennel are given a run for their money with blood plum, liquorice and roasted beetroot characters. But above all, it’s bloody yum.

Euro-inspired, Aussie rooted in Nagambie, Victoria. If you’ve had your coffee today, you might know tar and roses are signature characteristics of nebbiolo. Winemakers Narelle King and Don Lewis embodied this same sense of harmony in creating Spanish and Italian varietals with an inventive Aussie twist. Don’s legacy still lives on, with Tar and Roses focusing on the little things and quality fruit to make intense, distinctive and definitively gluggable wines.

"As with previous vintages, the grapes come from two main vineyards, one off the deep red Cambrian soil, the other from tougher more gravelly ground. The first gives us rich, chocolatey and earthy flavours whilst the other has more highly fragrant notes with good acid and sweet fruit. The wine that results is our take on Heathcote shiraz."
