Vintage: 2022
Margaret River, WA

ALC: 14.5%

We’re kicking it old school with this one. Take one of the oldest blocks on the estate, planted in 1987. Introduce it to one of the best shiraz vintages ever seen in the region. And you’ve got yourself a serious, serious vintage. Super fine structure, packed full of juicy, spicy plum flavour.

These guys just do everything right. An innate understanding of their 80 acres in ‘winemaking nirvana’ Margaret River and a tight focus on small batch quality means they’re strides ahead of the big dogs when it comes to agility and flavour. It’s this clever clog kind of thinking that scoops up all sorts of awards (65 golds to be precise) including James Halliday's Winemaker of the Year 2019 for Julian Langworthy. They’re wines JH described as having balance ‘beyond compare’. Impressive stuff without a doubt.

FROM THE WINEMAKER

"A true favourite of the Deep Woods’ winemaking team. Each batch of fruit was handled individually, from picking through to the final blend being chosen. Techniques of whole bunch fermentation and cold soaking were used to varying degrees, depending on the batch and a combination of open and static fermenters were used. Maturation was in tight-grained François Frères Burgundian oak, for an average of 14 months, at which time only the very best barrels were chosen for the finished wine."

FOOD MATCHING

A smidge more elegant and medium bodied than a Barossa shiraz, you’ll wanna think in the realms of semi-sweet dishes here, like Szechwan or Satay.
