Vintage: 2017

Eden Valley, SA
ALC: 14.0%

With the expert balance of a tightrope walker, this is an A grade, delicate Shiraz/Syrah. Blackberries, spice and a ripper tannin structure. Like any refined, complex company, give it a bit of time to open up before you launch.

We can’t help but get around this Adelaide Hills winemaker. His small batch ethos? To make wines that’ll be “loved by some rather than liked by all”. Michael is a champion of super specific terroirs. A past life as a Sotheby’s jewellery evaluator serves him well as he meticulously observes wine subtleties. With his keen eye and passion for slow artisanal craft, he creates wines with big, distinctive personalities that won’t fade into bland anonymity. Someone get us a glass, stat!

FROM THE WINEMAKER

"The Naimanya vineyard sits high in the tiny sub-region of Flaxman’s Valley on soils of sandy loam, gravel and quartz over clay. At 520m elevation it is one of the highest Shiraz vineyards in South Australia. A dry winter and warm spring drove an early harvest despite average summer temperatures. Picked on 21st March, 75% de-stemmed to open fermenter, 25% whole-bunch fermented in puncheon with 31 days maceration, matured for 20 months in French oak (10% new).3190 bottles produced."

FOOD MATCHING

Red meat, you’re on here! Beef, lamb even venison. A nice chicken dish would also work a treat. A good reason to get your chef on *flicks tea towel over shoulder*.
