This Pinot Noir certainly excites us. We have talked a lot about Tassie Pinot, and finding the right one. And now I think we have. It is made about as far south as you can make Pinot in Australia - classic cool cool cool climate; light and elegant, yet full of depth. It could be, just maybe, our biggest and most sort after release of the year.

Sailor Seeks Horse are by far and away one of Tasmania's hottest new producers. They are a small batch operation in every sense of the word - a husband and wife team doing it all themselves; Paul looking after the vineyards and Gill as the winemaker. They have a genuine cult following - not just a few articles and posts on social media - old school collectors wanting to get their hands on the limited production wines. How lucky are we!

From The Winemaker

"The Pinot Noirs we love display a delicate balance between red and dark fruits, high-toned aromatics, layered depth and verve. It’s something we hope to achieve in our Pinots and is a combination of site and sensitive winemaking.

Picking dates are intrinsic to obtaining the energy we look for in our wines - pick too early and you lack the delicious component, pick too late and you lose the moreish part. It’s a cliché but it’s all about balance."

FOOD MATCHING

This is a classic and classy Pinot Noir from Tasmania. Time to lift your home cooking game. Quail. Do it! The earthy, spicy nature of this Pinot Noir, coupled with its dark cherry fruit character, matches perfectly with game meats. You are on!

RATING

95 Points (JH) "An elegant wine that highlights its cool climate credentials with cherry perfume spiked with pepper and juniper, all leading out onto a lean but not mean palate. Tannins supple, fine and savoury and the all important lively acidity. Feels effortless. Immediately delicious." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)
