Once the realm of weird coincidences and texts from your ex, Shivers Down Your Spine has now taken on a whole new, improved meaning. A proper team effort, this shiraz is picked and made by loyal Whistler fans each year. 2018’s release bursts with blackcurrant and blueberries with a whiff of frankincense and whole bunch leafiness in there too. Hoo roo, it’s good.

Wine smarts have run in the Pfeiffer family for four generations. Great-grandfather Albert worked his South Australia vines in barefoot, father worked with Penfolds for nearly thirty years, including overseeing the Grange vineyards viticulture, before first planting vines in the Barossa Valley in 1994. Now Josh leads the latest generation’s organic approach by dodging out, hilling back on and harvesting the fruit at optimum ripeness during the cool of the night. With solid grounding in the past but a passionate eye on the future, when these guys talk, we’re all ears.

"100% of the fruit is sourced from our vineyards surrounding our Cellar Door, grown using organic and biodynamic practices in the vineyard. Hand picked by our loyal mailing list customers, the Purple Hands crew, the majority of this wine comes from our grafted Shiraz blocks, with the balance coming from the older plantings of Shiraz on our vineyard. Our Purple Hands crew hand pick the fruit into half-tonne picking bins, then foot stomped the fruit to burst the berries and encourage the natural fermentation to commence. 20% of this wine was fermented as whole bunch in this way, with the balance fermented on skins for 12 days in old concrete fermenters. Basket pressed to a 3,000L and 2,500L French oak foudre for 16 months, before bottling with no fining and no filtration."

What’s the time? Dumpling o’clock. A match made in Honkers heaven. Try Asian sauces and spices: hoisin and dark soy, with a plum sauce.
